Bannerdown Gliding Club

We operate from Keevil airfield, which is situated in Wiltshire between Devizes and Westbury.We are an RAF GSA Gliding Club, affiliated with RAF Lyneham. We welcome personnel from all areas of the armed services, as well as non service people whether you have flying experience or not.

Bannerdown Gliding Club is situated just north of the Westbury White Horse ridge which allows for great soaring conditions. This provides excellent opportunities from both the ridge and for thermals. Quite often the local hills produce beautifully smooth wave lift!

Keevil airfield is a large and safe environment for training. It offers opportunities for trial lessons on an individual or group basis. Our 'Trial Lesson' vouchers make great gifts!

The Park
The airfield is situated at Kingston Deverill a few miles south of Warminster, close to the Wiltshire/Dorset border, just North of Mere.  See the maps for further details.
History
The club was formed in 1963 as the Bath Gliding Club, eventually becoming the Bath & Wilts Gliding Club. Until our move to The Park in 1992, when the club became the Bath Wilts and North Dorset Gliding Club, the club flew from Keevil airfield. There are currently around 120 flying members, and around 40 privately owned gliders. There are no paid staff, all club functions are provided by club members.

Bidford Gliding Club

Bidford is an active gliding site where gliders are launched by aerotow i.e. behind another aeroplane. We have a busy training operation and there are also many private gliders based here. Weather permitting, the club operates 7 days a week. Visitors and new members are always welcome and we offer Trial Flights for those who are interested in learning to glide or simply just want to have a go!  If you want to treat someone to a glider experience, Gift Vouchers are available too.

As well as the gliding club, there are several small powered aircraft based at Bidford, which adds to the aviation atmosphere. In the clubhouse, to keep you refreshed, there is a café and for the evenings, a bar.

Black mountain Gliding Club

Talgarth airfield is home to a small but active gliding club, set 970 feet above sea level in the stunning scenery of the Black Mountains halfway between Hay on Wye to the east and Brecon to the west.
With soarable conditions on most days, we have longer average flight times than any other UK club, and for the experienced pilot we can offer ridge runs and wave flying in almost any wind direction and excellent cross country options. For the less experienced, we offer training at all levels from ab initio to advanced wave and hill soaring. Training on weekdays can be booked through the club office.

In a northerly wind the ridges work from Hay Bluff down into the Brecon Beacons, and beyond for the more adventurous and experienced hill pilot. NW winds give wave over the Wye valley. Easterly wave occurs in the Cwmdu valley. High climbs are possible in SW wave over Brecon, Llangorse and sometimes, when in phase, in the Golden valley to diamond heights. Talgarth is also establishing itself as an important cross country site.

All this combined with a seven-days-a-week operation to make us the UK's premier gliding centre.

Situated between London and Oxford and convenient to the M40 (Junction4), we offer flying amid outstanding countryside.   Booker is easily accessible from the surrounding area and is easy to reached by road via the M40 from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, West London and the Midlands.  Traveling via the M4/A404 provides easy access from Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, South London and Wiltshire.  High Wycombe railway station provides good access from Central London (Marylebone)  and has a bus link (or a taxi journey of around ten minutes).  Alternatively, trains are available from London Paddington to Maidenhead (taxi journey of around 20 minutes).

Bowland Forest Gliding Club

Bowland Forest Gliding Club has owned its present 56 acre site since 1973, having previously operated from Squires Gate in Blackpool and Samlesbury Airfield.

We are situated at the Southern tip of the Forest of Bowland (designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The local fells offer excellent soaring in most wind directions, with occasional wave an added bonus.
We operate every Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the year, weather permitting.

Bristol and Gloucestershire Gliding Club

The Bristol & Gloucestershire Gliding club (BGGC) is one of the UK's longest established gliding clubs. The club owns its own dedicated gliding site situated near the village of Nympsfield, between Stroud and Dursley. With a modern clubhouse, extensive club fleet and surrounding scenery offering terrific views over the Severn Valley the BGGC offers a combination of excellent facilities and a great site to fly from. Whether you are an experienced pilot looking for exciting cross-country possibilities, a trainee pilot looking to build your skills or a member of the public wanting to experience the pleasure of unpowered flight the BGGC can offer you what you are looking for.
BGGC members include current and past World Champions! From our airfield at Nympsfield, on the edge of the Cotswolds, pilots have flown to the Isle of Wight, Snowdon, Cornwall, Yorkshire and circumnavigated London. BPS has been a professional Skydiving Centre since 1977, providing quality services for both Beginning and Experienced Skydivers all year round. Skydives are normally from at least 13,000ft, using two fast 16-place turbine-powered Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft. For Beginners, we offer three options: our Basic Skydiving Course (using the 'RAPS' static line system), the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) Course, and Tandem Skydives. For a 'taster' of our sport, Tandem Skydives provide you with an experience of around 50 seconds in freefall while securely attached to an experienced BPA instructor! If your aim is to become a Skydiver in your own right, then either the Basic Skydiving or Accelerated Freefall (AFF) courses are for you. These alternative courses each take about 18 skydives to complete, at which point you will be eligible to apply for your Skydiver's International 'A' Certificate. As a full time skydiving centre, we are in an excellent position to offer ongoing coaching to intermediate and experienced skydivers, from help in choosing a first set of equipment through to enhancing skills up to Competition level - with further training from National Champions and World Record Holders.

Buckminster Gliding Club

Gliding as a sport has many aspects. While it is possible to compete at a national level (or go on the represent your country) - in either cross-country or aerobatics. There are many that enjoy gliding simply for itself.

Of course, before any of that is possible you will need to learn to glide. So how to start?

There are a number of options, but it is probably best to start with a trial lesson - this takes the form of an introductory lesson, including a demonstration of what the controls do, and a chance for you to try for yourself (all with a BGA approved instructor); or a 1 or 2 day course.

Importantly, trial lessons come with a months membership of the club (courses include three months membership). This gives you a chance to get a feeling of what gliding is like, by flying as much as you want during that period.

While it is possible to make progress coming out once a week, it is generally better to attend a course. Having a concentrated period of flying can really help develop the skills (and judgment) needed to fly.

As you progress there are a number gliding awards (badges) to mark your progress, and act as encouragement; all the way from your first solo flight, to flights of 500 kilometers and more. There is also a series of badges for aerobatics.

Burn Gliding Club

Burn Gliding Club is nationally known for its excellence in glider pilot training and great flights, with our aim being to provide flying for all, at the lowest possible cost. Our facilities are excellent, with various types of both single and two-seater aircraft available to fly.
We are Located on the A19 between Selby and Eggborough power station, north of junction 34 on the M62 in East Yorkshire. The club is a 'self help' organisation which keeps our operating costs - and therefore flying costs - down to a reasonable level. The airfield at Burn is an ex-World War Two RAF Bomber Command Airfield with three active and usable runways. We operate on a three flying day week, with Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays being flying days (flying also takes place on Bank Holidays days). Flying usually starts at around 10am and continues until 6pm, depending on the weather conditions.

We have a comprehensive club fleet of twin and single seat gliders, a Pawnee tug for aerotow launches, three Tost winches capable of launching a glider to 1500ft and even higher, a spacous clubhouse and bar, and some of the lowest flight prices around.

Cairngorm Gliding Club

The Cairngorm Gliding Club has been operating from Feshie Airstrip for over thirty years. It is situated in an area of oustanding natural beauty on the edge of the Cairngorm Mountains and the Spey Valley.

Feshie is an ideal location for ridge, wave and thermal cross country flying. Glider pilots from all over Britain visit Feshie to take advantage of the suberb conditions.

Feshie operates all year round, mainly at weekends, although gliding is often available mid-week. Intensive 5 day courses are available but these are very much dependent on instructor availability. We have a fully equipped clubhouse with cooking, toilet and shower facilities.

Often we have supper together in the clubhouse on a Saturday evening and discuss the days activities. You may camp on site for free.

Please note that we are strictly limited to only three caravans on site at any one time, so spaces must be booked through the secretary. There are excellent hotels, B&B's and hostels near the site and we can provide details on request.

Cambridge Gliding centre

Gliding is a sport that is both beautiful and exciting. Nothing can quite match the thrill of soaring silently over the countryside; literally getting a birds-eye view of Cambridgeshire and beyond.

Gliding is suitable for all ages from 14 upward. You can fly solo from the age of 16, and the challenges and rewards keep on coming, whatever level you reach. We encourage young people into this rewarding sport with sponsorship schemes, whilst older members enjoy flying with us into retirement.

Buy a present with a difference. Vouchers are available for a single aerotow flight for £70 to short courses from £175, or tokens for any value from £99 towards membership and flying training.

Safety is paramount. The British Gliding Association (BGA), to which Cambridge Gliding Club is affiliated, governs the sport. Our procedures fully comply with BGA standards and you will fly with BGA approved instructors during your training.

Our airfield, Gransden Lodge, is located 12 miles(18km) west of Cambridge. The airfield entrance is off the B1046 between Longstowe and Little Gransden.
Our new on site accommodation is now complete. This will greatly enhance the appeal of a club expedition to Gransden Lodge to enjoy our unrestricted airspace, and friendly outlanding possibilities for those wishing to improve their cross country skills.

Carlton Moor Gliding Club

Welcome to the Carlton Moor Gliding Club.  We are based above the village of Carlton on the North Yorkshire Moors, close to Stokesley, and are easy to find with help from our directions page.
Like all similar clubs, Carlton Moor Gliding Club is regulated by the British Gliding Association (BGA) and our instructors are both trained and authorized by them.

We are a relatively small but very friendly club, and you can find us flying almost every weekend.

As you can imagine by the location of our Club, when the weather is good the site and altitude provide excellent flying conditions for gliders.  The Club's facilities are currently fairly basic, but we do have shelter from the elements, which can be quite bleak in winter.

However, any lack of amenities are more than made up for with some of the best views the North Yorkshire Moors has to offer.

Channel Gliding Club

The Channel Gliding Club is a members-owned organisation and is run entirely by volunteers. Club members may come and fly on any day that the Club is operating.

Club instruction is integrated with visitors flying and is on the basis of 'first come, first served'. Members are also expected to assist with glider launching and, with experience and training, to operate launching equipment and to help run the airfield.
The Club operates two-seater training gliders and a launching winch. The airstrip is 1100 metres long and averages about 75 metres wide. The gliders are launched to heights of between 1100 and 1800 feet depending on the weather conditions.

We have a Clubhouse with a bar, kitchen, toilets and office. The Clubroom is large and comfortable with a pool table. Members and their families are welcome to enjoy its facilities.

Coffee and tea are available.

Trial Flights
This gives you a flight with one of our instructors to get the thrill of a winch launch and the sensation of silent flight followed by the landing. Flight time is solely dependent on the weather conditions but should be between 7-15 minutes. from £35

Group Bookings
Discounts are given for groups of 10 or more and there is free use of a barbecue with 'self-service cooking'. In the summer, evening sessions can be arranged for group visits. Day time bookings can be made by special arrangment.

Three Flight Package
You will spend the day within a small group on the course, and have three flights with one of our instructors taking turns to fly. The first flight will familiarise you with the thrill of a winch launch, and the sensation of silent flight followed by the landing. This is followed by two more flights in turn with the others, during all these flights you will be given the opportunity to take the controls of the Glider. We also encourage you to participate in all the other activities on the Airfield. from £100
